GRE is one of the world’s most attempted, English language exam.Students can opt for a paper-based or computer-based test. GRE is one of the key requirements in order to study in the United States, UK, Europe, Singapore, Australia and many other places around the world where English is a language in the workplace or the classroom.

GRE is designed to assess the following English skills of an individual:

  • Analytical Writing
  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Quantitative Reasoning
The test is accepted by over 3000 graduate programs worldwide, including schools, universities, employers, immigration authorities and professional bodies.

A candidate can choose to take one of the following exams depending on the comfort level of the candidate.

Scale of Score
Candidates are marked on their performance on a scale of 130 to 170 in 1 point increments for Verbal and Quantitative reasoning and on a scale of 0-6 in 0.5 point increments for Analytical writing. The overall score is evaluated on the basis of the scores in the four individual components. Good score is 300/340
Test Format
The GRE test is a single,3 hour 45 minutes, computer-based test comprising of three main parts of the test namely – Analytical Writing, Verbal reasoning and Quantitative reasoning.

Analytical Writing:
Measures critical thinking and analytical writing skills, specifically your ability to articulate complex ideas effectively and clearly.

In this part, the candidate will be asked to perform the following tasks:

  • Issue Task
  • Argument Task

The overall time for this part is 60 minutes.

Quantitative reasoning:
Measures problem-solving ability, focusing on mathematical knowledge and reasoning skills.

In this part, the candidate is required to perform the following tasks:

  • Problem Solving
  • Quantitative Comparison
  • Numeric Entry

The overall time for this part is between 35-40 minutes each section.

Verbal Reasoning:
Measures your ability to analyze and evaluate written material and synthesize information obtained from it, it also analyzes the relationships among component parts of sentences and recognize relationships among words and concepts.

  • The overall time for this part is 60 minutes.
  • The overall test time around 3 hours 45 minutes.
Test Validity
A GRE test is valid for 5 years starting from the date of the test taken.
Test centres in India
The GRE test is currently conducted in 23 cities across India.
Test accepting Countries
GRE is accepted for admissions in most US, UK, Europe, Singapore and Australian academic institutions. It is accepted in over 3000 graduate programs across the world.
Booking the Test
The GRE exam can be booked online/through a mail/on phone or through a fax. The candidate will require the following documents in order to book the exam:

  • Valid Passport
  • Authorization Voucher if applicable
  • Your confirmation Email
  • Valid Passport
  • Admission Ticket
  • Three or four sharpened No. 2 or HB pencils and a good eraser
