TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language
TOEFL is one of the major English-language tests in the world. Test taker can choose between internet-based and paper-based test.The intended purpose of TOEFL is to assess students on a certain set of skills in English for use in admission to undergraduate and graduate level programs across the world.

TOEFL is designed to assess the following English skills of an individual:

  • Reading
  • Listening
  • Speaking
  • Writing
The test is accepted by over 9000 institutions, including schools, universities, employers, government agencies, scholarship programs and other professional bodies.

Scale of Score
Internet-based: Candidates are marked on their performance on a scale of 0 to 30 in 1 point increments for each of the 4 sections.Composite score is addition of all the scores. TOEFL is scored out of 120. 80+ is considered a good score.

Paper-based: Candidates are marked on their performance on a scale of 31 to 68 for listening, on a scale of 31 to 69 for speaking, and 31 to 67 for writing. Total of 310 to 677. Writing is marked on a scale of 0 to 6. (All in 1 point increments.)

Test Format
The TOEFL internet-based is a single, 4 hour test comprising of four main parts of the test namely – Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing.

Reading:
This section of the test requires you to read 4 to 6 passages from academic text and answer questions.
The overall time for this part is 60-80 minutes.

Listening:
This section of the test requires you to listen to discussions, conversations, lectures and answer questions.
The overall time for this part is 60-90 minutes.

Speaking:
This section of the test requires you to express an opinion on a familiar topic.
The overall time for this part is 20 minutes.

Writing:
This section of the test requires you to write essay responses based on reading and listening tasks; support an opinion in writing.
The overall time for this part is 50 minutes.
The overall test time around 4 hours excluding breaks.
The TOEFL paper-based is a single, 2 hour 30 minutes test comprising of four main parts of the test namely – Reading Comprehension, Listening, Writing and Structure and written expression.

Listening:
This section of the test requires you to listen to conversations, lectures and answer questions.
The overall time for this part is 30-40 minutes.

Reading Comprehension:
The Reading Comprehension sections has 50 questions about reading passages.
The overall time for this part is 55 minutes.

Writing:
This section includes a one essay question with 250-300 words in average
The overall time for this part is 30 minutes.

Structure and written Expression:
This section includes 15 exercises of completing sentences correctly and 25 exercises of identifying errors

The overall time for this part is 25 minutes.

Test Validity
TOEFL test is valid for 2 years starting from the date of the test taken.

There are about 49 cities across India.
Test accepting Countries
TOEFL score is accepted for admissions in more than 9000 universities across US, UK, Europe, Singapore and Australian academic institutions.
Booking the Test
The TOEFL exam can be booked online. The candidate will require the following documents in order to book the exam:

  • Your confirmation Email
